Former Mr Nigeria, Ugo Nwokolo, has issued a public apology to his fiancée, Precious, popularly known as "The Fruit Girl," following reports that she called off their wedding plans after discovering that he had two children from previous relationships. The revelation, which reportedly came nearly two years into their relationship, has sparked widespread debate on social media about honesty, trust, and disclosure in modern relationships. Precious, a fruit seller who rose to fame after being discovered by the Facebook content creator Untouchable Comedies, was reportedly preparing to marry Nwokolo before learning of his children, a discovery that allegedly led her to end the relationship and seek advice from her followers.
Addressing the controversy on his social media handle, Nwokolo confirmed that he has children but clarified that he has never been married before. "Yes, I have children, but I have never been married before. This is my first marriage and my first attempt at building a home with someone," he said. He also strongly rejected claims that his relationship with Precious was a publicity stunt, insisting that their romance was genuine and not created for content purposes. According to him, the couple had progressed significantly in their traditional marriage arrangements, having visited their families and completed major traditional rites. "We have visited our families, the major traditional rites have been fulfilled (which makes her my wife)," he stated.
Nwokolo also revealed that the couple had already begun preparations for their wedding ceremony, which was scheduled for November. "Consequently, we have been preparing for our wedding ceremony scheduled for November. We had already taken our pre-wedding photos and videos, excited and looking forward to flooding the internet with beautiful memories of our journey together until the recent discovery changed everything," he said. He subsequently accused his former girlfriend of attempting to damage his relationship by allegedly spreading false information about his past, claiming that she had lied that he had been married before and that he had a child with someone else.
Despite his explanations, Nwokolo's primary concern was not simply to defend himself publicly but to address the impact the situation had had on Precious and their relationship. Turning directly to his fiancée, he acknowledged that his public explanation could not erase the pain caused by the controversy. "Baby, I know that words alone cannot undo hurt. I am not perfect. I am a work in progress," he said. He also accepted responsibility for his actions and promised to learn from the situation. "I take responsibility for my actions, and what matters now is not how well I explain myself to the public, but the kind of husband I choose to become from this moment forward."
Despite Nwokolo's apology, reports indicate that Precious has ended the relationship and is not considering a reconciliation. The situation has attracted significant attention across social media platforms, with many arguing that openness about major life circumstances is essential before committing to marriage. The drama has ignited conversations about the importance of honesty in relationships and the consequences of withholding information about children from previous relationships. As one social media user noted, trust once broken may never be fully restored, and the decision to conceal such significant life details can have devastating consequences on the foundation of any relationship.
