The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a suspected vandal, Mustapha Abubakar, and recovered a large quantity of stolen electricity service cables in the Bunza Local Government Area of the state. The arrest, which occurred on August 25, 2026, followed a targeted police operation in the Kara area of Bunza town, prompted by growing concerns over the persistent theft and vandalism of electricity infrastructure that had plunged several communities into darkness.
According to a statement by the command's Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, operatives recovered ten bundles and seven sacks of electricity service cables during the operation. Usman said the development underscored the command's resolve to dismantle the activities of individuals and criminal networks responsible for the theft and vandalism of public infrastructure. The suspect has since been arraigned before a court.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar M. Hadejia, reaffirmed the command's determination to protect critical national assets and ensure that perpetrators face the full weight of the law.
