The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the deadline for candidates offered admission between 2021 and 2026 to accept or reject their outstanding offers, giving affected students a final opportunity to regularise their admission status. The new deadline is Wednesday, September 30, 2026, replacing the earlier deadline of Monday, August 31, 2026, which the Board had initially set for candidates with pending admission offers dating back to 2021.
JAMB’s Acting Director of Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr Fabian Benjamin, announced the extension in a statement on Saturday, August 29, 2026, describing it as the final opportunity for all affected candidates, including those with regular admission offers and those under the Centralised University International Admission (CUIIA) process. "Candidates with pending admission offers who have not yet accepted or rejected such offers are strongly advised to do so before September 30, 2026," Benjamin said. The Board urged candidates not to wait until the last day, warning that failure to take action within the stipulated period would have consequences for the status of their admissions.
Candidates who accept their admission offers will be able to proceed to print and obtain their admission letters. Those who reject their offers will have their dashboards reverted to "Not Admitted," enabling the Board to update its records and ensure that the national admission database accurately reflects the current status of candidates. JAMB also provided guidance for candidates who are no longer studying at the institutions where their previous admissions were offered or who are currently enrolled in a different programme. Such candidates may accept the outstanding admission and subsequently apply for the appropriate correction or deletion of the admission, as the case may be, to enable the Board to properly update their admission status and records.
Similarly, candidates currently pursuing a second degree but who still have an unaccepted previous admission offer may reject the outstanding offer and continue with their current programme. JAMB also allayed the fears of candidates who have secured admission in the 2026 admission exercise but still have a previous admission offer pending. The Board said such candidates could safely reject the previous admission without any adverse effect on their 2026 admission.
However, JAMB stressed that there would be no further extension after Wednesday, September 30, 2026. Upon expiration of the deadline, all outstanding admission offers from 2021 to date that have neither been accepted nor rejected will automatically be reverted to "Not Admitted" status and will remain so on the Board's records. The Board therefore urged all affected candidates to act immediately rather than wait until the deadline, reiterating that failure to accept an admission offer within the stipulated period would render the offer invalid.
