A wave of grief and anger has swept through the Lata Nna community in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State following the brutal murder of a farmer by suspected bandits on Monday morning, August 31, 2026. The victim, identified as Abdullahi Dogo Mai Tulari, was reportedly on his way to his farm when he was attacked and hacked to death by the assailants.
A source familiar with the tragic incident told SaharaReporters that the farmer was killed while on his farm in the rural community. Gory photographs obtained by SaharaReporters showed the farmer's body bearing deep machete wounds, particularly around his head and face, a grim testament to the brutality of the attack.
The latest killing comes amid escalating insecurity in Kwara State, where rural communities, particularly those in Patigi and neighbouring local government areas, have become vulnerable to deadly raids by bandits and criminal groups. Farmers, who are the primary livelihood providers in these agrarian regions, are increasingly becoming targets while travelling to or working on their farmlands.
Residents of Lata Nna and surrounding communities have repeatedly raised alarms over the activities of suspected bandits and other criminal elements operating in the area. The murder of Abdullahi Dogo Mai Tulari is not an isolated incident. It follows a disturbing pattern of violence, including the recent abduction of a farmer and teacher, Mohammed Abubakar Ndakpada, who has remained in captivity since July 30, 2026. According to his family, they have already paid N12 million in ransom and supplied requested items, but the abductors have refused to release him and have demanded an additional N5 million.
The family of the slain farmer, like countless others in the region, is now left to mourn a loved one who was simply trying to earn a living. The killing has renewed calls for the government and security agencies to take urgent action to protect rural communities and farmers who are the backbone of the state's food security.
As of the time of this report, the Kwara State Police Command had not yet issued an official statement on the murder of Abdullahi Dogo Mai Tulari. However, the command has previously launched homicide investigations into similar killings in the state. The people of Lata Nna and the wider Patigi LGA are now waiting, hoping that this latest tragedy will finally prompt the authorities to act decisively against the bandits who have turned their communities into a killing field.
