The Osun State Government has issued a public warning against a fraudulent website operating under the name of the "Osun State Sports Trust Fund," an initiative recently launched with music superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as its chairman. The government raised the alarm on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, amid concerns that unsuspecting members of the public could mistake the platform for an official government website.
In a statement, the government identified the website as osunsportstrustfund.com and clarified that it was neither owned, authorised, nor operated by the Osun State Government. The public was advised to disregard any information, requests, fundraising appeals, or transactions emanating from the platform. The warning is particularly significant because the Osun State Government has been genuinely developing plans for a Sports Trust Fund to create a sustainable financing framework for sports development.
In February 2025, Governor Ademola Adeleke announced that his administration was finalising the legal framework for a Sports Commission and a Sports Trust Fund. The initiative gained further momentum in October 2025 when Davido was appointed chairman of the fund. The Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Kola Adewusi, disclosed that Davido accepted the appointment "without hesitation," expressing confidence that the singer's global influence would help attract private-sector funding for sports development in the state.
The fraudulent website currently presents itself as the "Osun State Sports Trust Fund" and advertises funding and partnership opportunities, while displaying references to the Ministry of Youth & Sports and a proposed investment target. The government's warning aims to prevent members of the public from mistaking the unauthorised platform for an official government initiative, particularly in view of the state's publicly announced plans for a Sports Trust Fund.
The development highlights the need for greater public vigilance as government-backed initiatives and fundraising platforms increasingly operate online, where fraudulent platforms can mimic official programmes and institutions. As one official noted, members of the public should not make payments, provide information, or respond to fundraising appeals through the platform unless its authenticity is independently confirmed through official Osun State Government channels.
