The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has rearrested two ex-convicts, Rose Daniel and Blessing John, for allegedly abducting and trafficking children, just months after they completed a four-month jail term for the same offence. The suspects were arrested on August 27, 2026, while allegedly attempting to escape with a four-year-old girl, identified as Ummi Mariam Abdullah, in Kuje, Abuja.
According to the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the suspects were apprehended following credible intelligence and an alert from a concerned community member who witnessed the incident. Police operatives responded swiftly, rescued the child, and arrested both suspects.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Daniel and John had previously been arrested in December 2025 and arraigned before a court for a similar offence. They were convicted and released on bail after spending about five months in prison. However, after their release, the suspects allegedly abducted and trafficked four children to different parts of the country.
In the most recent case, two children were allegedly transported to a regular accomplice in Port Harcourt, identified only as Madam Ijeoma, who reportedly purchased the children for N1.5 million each. Police investigations also revealed that the suspects had previously sold two other children for N3 million.
Explaining their modus operandi, Adeh said Blessing John, a Christian from Benue State, would disguise as a Muslim by wearing a hijab to abduct children sent on errands. "When nobody is watching, they cover these children with hijab and take off to sell them outside FCT," Adeh stated.
During interrogation, Rose Daniel confessed to introducing Blessing to the criminal act. She expressed remorse, admitting that her children would not be happy with her. She also disclosed that her husband had recently divorced her over the crime she committed.
The rescued four-year-old girl has been reunited with her family, while the two suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue. The FCT Police Command has assured that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Command urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and pay close attention to the safety and whereabouts of their children. It also encouraged members of the public to promptly report suspicious persons, movements, or activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines.
