Two people were killed after suspected local criminals attacked residents and rustled cattle in Kopnale Village, Mangun District, in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, security sources have said.
The incident occurred at about 12:07 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026, when the attackers reportedly entered the community and launched an assault on residents while also taking cattle from the area.
Security sources cited by security analyst Zagazola Makama said troops of Sector 8, Operation Enduring Peace, responded to a distress report concerning the attack and cattle rustling in the community.
The troops moved to the area alongside local vigilantes after receiving information about the incident. On arrival, they reportedly found the bodies of two natives who had sustained gunshot wounds.
The suspected attackers had fled the community before the troops and vigilantes arrived, leaving the two victims dead at the scene. The circumstances leading to the killings remain under investigation, while security personnel are working to establish the identities and locations of the perpetrators.
The attackers also reportedly rustled three cattle during the incident. The livestock were taken from the community as the criminals withdrew from the area.
