Troops of Sector 8, Operation Enduring Peace, have arrested two suspected cattle rustlers during a raid operation at Mangun Village in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State. The operation was conducted at about 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, following reports of activities by suspected cattle rustlers operating in the area. According to security sources, the troops raided an identified hideout of the suspected criminals in the village and arrested two suspects identified as Klishik Dashuk, 28, and Bamshak Micheal, 26.
Items recovered from the suspects included two mobile phones, quantities of substances suspected to be marijuana and other illicit drugs, as well as ₦28,755 in cash. The suspects are currently in military custody and undergoing interrogation to establish their alleged involvement in cattle rustling and other criminal activities in the area. The operation is part of the ongoing efforts by troops of Operation Enduring Peace to tackle cattle rustling, banditry and other forms of criminality across Plateau State.
Cattle rustling has become a persistent and deadly problem in Plateau State, where armed groups have exploited communal tensions and difficult terrain to steal livestock and attack farming communities. The theft of cattle is not just an economic crime. It is a trigger for reprisal attacks that have claimed hundreds of lives in Mangu, Barkin Ladi, Riyom and other local government areas. The recovery of suspected marijuana and other illicit drugs from the suspects has also raised concerns about the link between drug abuse and criminal activity in the region.
The arrest of the two suspects is a welcome development for the people of Mangun and surrounding communities, who have suffered from repeated attacks by cattle rustlers. The military has urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies, stressing that community cooperation remains critical to tracking criminal elements and preventing further attacks.
