Bandits attacked farmers in Rafin Sarki, Galadimawa Ward, Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Tuesday morning, September 22, 2026, killing two people, injuring another, and escaping with about 50 cattle. The deceased have been identified as Yusuf Yau Ladan, 22, and Abdul Suleja, 16. Another farmer, Muktar Isah, was shot in the chest and thigh during the attack.
According to local sources, the same group of attackers had reportedly shot Hassan Surajo, 25, in the thigh on September 8, 2026. The attack underscores the persistent threat faced by farmers in the Giwa area, where armed groups have continued to operate with relative impunity despite security operations in the region. The rustling of 50 cattle alongside the killing of two young farmers reflects the dual nature of the criminal enterprise in Kaduna's rural communities, where bandits combine violence with livestock theft to sustain their operations.
Security agencies have not yet issued an official statement on the incident or announced any arrests. The injured farmer, Muktar Isah, is receiving treatment, while the families of the two deceased are left to mourn. The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents targeting farmers in Kaduna State, where rural communities have repeatedly called for stronger security measures to protect them as they go about their livelihoods.
Residents of Giwa LGA have raised concerns over the frequency of attacks in the area and the absence of sustained security presence. They have urged the government to intensify operations against bandit groups and ensure that farmers can return to their fields without fear of being killed or abducted. As one community source put it, the question on everyone's mind is how many more farmers must lose their lives before they can safely return to their farms.
