The Federal University Dutse has expelled 12 students and rusticated five others following the outcome of the 20th meeting of the Students' Disciplinary Committee, in a sweeping disciplinary action that covered offences ranging from armed robbery and cultism to drug abuse, cyberbullying, and attempted sexual assault. The sanctions, approved by Vice-Chancellor Professor Ahmad Mohammed Gumel, were announced in a statement signed by the university's spokesman, Abdullahi Yahaya Bello, and issued to journalists on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
According to the statement, the 12 expelled students were found guilty of various offences, including criminal conspiracy and armed robbery, robbery and cult-related activities, phone theft, and drug abuse on campus. Six of the expelled students were sanctioned for criminal conspiracy and armed robbery, while two others were found guilty of robbery and cult-related activities. One student was expelled for phone theft, and two others were dismissed for drug abuse on campus.
The expelled students include Emmanuel Nebani Anenechukwu (FMS/BUS/23/1015), Ayomide Kayode Peter (FASS/CSS/23/1032), Idris Ismail (FPS/PHY/24/1072), Miracle Kayode Pelumi (FLS/BCH/24/1071), Yazi Yusuf Saleh (FCP/CYB/25/1091), and Yusuf Lawal Abdurrazak (FSC/PHY/22/1043), all sanctioned for criminal conspiracy and armed robbery. Ahmed Bashir (FLS/MCB/25/1029) was expelled for phone theft, while Mubarak Kana Usman (FSC/EMT/20/1093) and Divine Inuwa (FASS/CSS/25/1016) were expelled for robbery and cult-related activities. Ismail Lawan Muhammad (FMS/BFN/25/1046), Aisha Mahmood Yakubu (FPS/EMT/24/1049), and Fatima Auwal Muhammad (FLS/BOT/25/1048) were expelled for drug abuse on campus.
The five rusticated students were sanctioned for attempted sexual assault and cyberbullying. Four of them received rustication for two semesters, while one student was rusticated for one semester. The rusticated students are Muhammad Bashir Umar (FASS/CSS/22/1084) for attempted sexual assault, and Uwua Joseph (FCP/CSC/24/1105), Ahmed Tela Abdulhakim (FCP/CSC/24/1083), Abdulrasheed Salahuddeen Abdulkareem (FCP/CSC/25/2015), and Ibrahim Iliyasu (FCP/CSC/24/1095), all for cyberbullying.
In addition to the expulsions and rustications, five other students received warning letters for offences including cyberbullying, attempted sexual assault, and drug abuse committed off campus. The university said the disciplinary measures followed due consideration of the cases by the Students' Disciplinary Committee and were taken to uphold academic integrity, safeguard the campus environment, and deter misconduct among students.
The Vice-Chancellor reiterated FUD's commitment to maintaining discipline and ensuring that the institution remains a safe and conducive environment for learning. The affected students are drawn from various faculties and departments of the university, including the Faculty of Management Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Physical Sciences, Faculty of Life Sciences, Faculty of Computing, and Faculty of Science.
The disciplinary action is the latest in a series of sanctions imposed by FUD in 2026. In March, the university expelled 20 students and rusticated 15 others over examination malpractice. In August, the Senate approved the expulsion of 11 students and the rustication of 23 others, also for examination misconduct. The September sanctions, however, cover a broader range of offences, reflecting what university authorities describe as a comprehensive approach to maintaining discipline on campus.
For the students and their families, the sanctions carry immediate and lasting consequences. Expulsion means the end of their academic journey at FUD, while rustication bars them from campus for the specified period. The university's decision sends a clear message: criminal conduct, cultism, drug abuse, and cyberbullying will not be tolerated, regardless of the offender's faculty or level of study. Whether the sanctions will serve as a deterrent to others remains to be seen, but for the 22 students affected, the 20th meeting of the Students' Disciplinary Committee has reshaped their futures in ways they will not soon forget.
