An alleged attack involving a campaign vehicle linked to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been reported around Gegu-Beki in Koton Karfe, Kogi State, amid renewed political activity ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

The report circulating on Sunday, October 4, 2026, has yet to receive independent confirmation from the Kogi State Police Command or another authoritative security agency. Details about the circumstances of the reported incident, including whether anyone was injured, whether the vehicle was damaged and who may have been responsible, were not immediately established from credible reports available at the time of publication.

The location, however, is politically significant. Gegu-Beki is within Koton Karfe in Kogi State and lies along the Lokoja-Abuja corridor, an important route linking the state with the Federal Capital Territory. The area has previously featured in reports of political clashes and security incidents, particularly during election periods.

The latest allegation comes at a time when political parties are intensifying grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections. The ADC has been expanding its presence in Kogi and other parts of the country, while opposition parties have increasingly raised concerns about the security of their meetings, rallies and campaign activities.

A search of recent credible reports did not produce an independently verified account matching the specific allegation that an ADC campaign vehicle was attacked around Gegu-Beki on October 4. This means the reported incident should, at this stage, be treated as an allegation rather than an established fact.

The distinction is important because Kogi has experienced politically charged incidents in the past, and conflicting accounts have sometimes emerged after confrontations involving supporters of rival parties. In September 2026, for example, the ADC said its members were attacked during a ward meeting in Ejule-Alla Ward, Ofu Local Government Area. The party called on the police, the Department of State Services and other security agencies to investigate the incident. A contemporary report said suspected political thugs disrupted the meeting, with one party member injured during the resulting confusion. The identities and affiliations of those allegedly responsible were not established in the report.

That incident was followed by wider concerns from the ADC about alleged attacks and intimidation involving opposition political activities. On September 21, the party called on the police to provide updates on investigations into reported incidents across several states. Its national publicity secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the party was concerned about the environment in which political parties were expected to organise ahead of 2027. The allegations included incidents in Kogi, although the reported cases varied in nature and location.

Kogi also has a documented history of political tension around Koton Karfe. During the build-up to the 2023 governorship election, there were clashes involving supporters of different political parties in the area. Reports at the time described allegations and counter-allegations between political camps, while the police ordered investigations into reported violence.

In one significant episode in June 2023, then-Social Democratic Party governorship candidate Murtala Ajaka said his convoy came under attack around Koton Karfe. He alleged that several vehicles were targeted and that people were injured. Ajaka said he had survived because he was travelling in an armoured vehicle. The allegation generated a police response and became part of the broader controversy over campaign violence in the state. The incident should not be confused with the current allegation involving an ADC campaign vehicle, as they occurred in different election cycles.

The Koton Karfe area has also previously been associated with security concerns unrelated to partisan politics. Gegu-Beki lies on the Lokoja-Abuja road, where past reports have documented incidents involving criminal gangs and attacks on travellers. In March 2023, the Department of State Services said security agencies intercepted a six-man criminal gang at Gegu-Beki during a joint operation in Kogi State. The location’s position on a major highway has consequently made security an important issue for residents and road users.

More recently, the traditional ruler of Koton Karfe, the Ohimegye Igu, raised concerns about the condition of the Lokoja-Abuja highway. In September 2026, he urged the Federal Government to repair critical sections of the road, identifying stretches around Gegu-Beki among areas requiring attention. The Federal Controller of Works in Kogi acknowledged the difficulties along the corridor and said measures were being taken to reduce the hardship associated with ongoing construction.

Against this background, any confirmed attack on a political campaign vehicle in the area would be significant because political parties are expected to conduct lawful activities without intimidation or violence. Nigeria’s electoral framework provides for political participation and campaigning, while security agencies have a responsibility to protect people and property and investigate allegations of criminal conduct.

For now, however, there is no verified evidence available establishing who attacked the alleged ADC vehicle, what motivated the incident, or whether the report itself accurately describes what occurred. No responsible report should assign blame to the All Progressives Congress, the Peoples Democratic Party, the Social Democratic Party, any other political organisation, or unidentified individuals without evidence and an official or independently corroborated account.

The most important outstanding details are therefore the exact time and location of the reported incident, the identity of the vehicle occupants, the extent of any damage or injuries, whether a formal complaint was made, and whether the Kogi State Police Command has opened an investigation.

As political activities gather pace ahead of 2027, incidents of this nature are likely to attract heightened attention because of the wider national debate over political violence and the safety of opposition parties. But claims circulating online must still be tested against statements from security authorities, eyewitness accounts and independent reporting before they are presented as established facts.

At the time of filing, the alleged attack around Gegu-Beki remained unconfirmed by credible independent sources. Further details from the ADC, the police or other relevant authorities would be required before the incident can be reported conclusively.
