Former All Progressives Congress women leader in Bauchi South, Jamima J. Dutse, has reportedly been killed by unknown assailants at her residence in Bauchi State, with the Take-It-Back Movement calling on security agencies to immediately investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
The incident was reported on Sunday, October 4, 2026, with SaharaReporters reporting that Dutse was attacked and killed at her residence in Bauchi by unidentified assailants.
The report has triggered calls for an urgent investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death, particularly from the Bauchi State chapter of the Take-It-Back Movement, which described the killing as a serious security concern and demanded accountability.
In a statement dated October 4 and signed by its Bauchi State Coordinator, Nazif Bashi, the movement expressed shock and outrage over Dutse’s reported killing and extended its condolences to her family, friends and associates.
TIB described the incident as a “senseless act of violence” and said the circumstances raised fresh concerns about the safety of residents across Bauchi State.
The movement said the killing was particularly disturbing because it reportedly occurred at Dutse’s own residence, arguing that citizens should be able to feel safe in their homes regardless of their political affiliations, gender or social status.
“A society where citizens regardless of their political affiliations, gender, or status, cannot feel safe in their own homes is one on the brink of breakdown,” the group said.
TIB further argued that the reported killing should not be treated solely as a private tragedy involving Dutse and her family, saying it also raised wider concerns about public safety, security and the democratic environment in Bauchi State.
The movement called on the Bauchi State Police Command, the Department of State Services and other relevant security agencies to intensify efforts to establish what happened, identify those responsible and ensure that the suspects are arrested and prosecuted.
It also demanded the immediate establishment of what it described as a “dedicated, high-powered investigative panel” to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Dutse’s death.
According to the group, such an investigation should establish the events leading to the reported attack, identify the perpetrators and determine whether there were any security failures surrounding the incident.
TIB also called for transparent communication between security agencies, Dutse’s family and members of the public throughout the investigation.
The movement urged authorities to provide timelines and periodic updates on the progress of the investigation rather than allowing the case to disappear without a clear explanation of what happened.
“Justice must not only be done; it must be seen to be done,” the group said.
It further demanded that anyone found responsible for the killing be brought before the law and prosecuted, describing accountability as necessary to deter further violence.
TIB also appealed to the Bauchi State Government and security authorities to strengthen security measures, surveillance and intelligence gathering across Bauchi metropolis and neighbouring local government areas.
The group said the measures were necessary in view of what it described as a rising tide of violent attacks in the state.
It also called on civil society organisations, trade unions, human rights defenders and residents of Bauchi State to continue demanding accountability until those responsible for Dutse’s death are identified, arrested and prosecuted.
Dutse was previously identified as an APC Zonal Women Leader in Bauchi South. In June 2025, her name appeared among APC stakeholders from the area who expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu over the appointment of former House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara as Chairman of the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation’s governing council.
She was subsequently described in reporting in 2026 as a former APC women leader in Bauchi South.
The political background has added significance to the calls for a transparent investigation, although there is currently no verified evidence establishing that Dutse’s political activities were connected to her reported killing.
The identity of the attackers, their motive and the circumstances that led to the reported attack have not been established publicly.
There has also been no independent police account located so far confirming the circumstances of Dutse’s death. Consequently, details concerning the attack should be treated as allegations pending confirmation by the relevant security authorities.
The latest report comes amid wider security concerns in Bauchi State. Police have recently investigated separate cases of alleged violent deaths in the state, including the death of 43-year-old Jamila Adamu following a domestic incident at Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate in Bauchi on September 27, 2026. That case involved an arrested suspect and is unrelated to the reported death of Dutse.
In the Adamu case, police said a 33-year-old woman, Hauwa’u Haruna, had been arrested and that the matter was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
The distinction is important because both incidents occurred in Bauchi within a short period, but available reports do not indicate any connection between them.
For Dutse’s case, the immediate issue remains the establishment of the facts surrounding her reported death and the identification of whoever may have been responsible.
TIB has urged the authorities to act swiftly and transparently, warning that failure to investigate the case could further undermine public confidence in the ability of security agencies to protect residents.
The movement reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the rights and safety of citizens and said it would continue to demand accountability over the reported killing.
As of October 4, 2026, the reported death of Jamima J. Dutse remains the subject of calls for an official investigation, with attention now focused on the Bauchi State Police Command and other security agencies to establish the circumstances of the incident and determine whether criminal charges should follow.
