Rainbow Coalition: APC Group Accuses Agada Of Backing PDP’s Abba Moro, Seeks Sanctions

Some leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have petitioned the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), demanding sanctions against former Benue State Chairman, Austin Agada, over alleged anti-party activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The petition was submitted by members of the APC Solidarity Group through the office of the party’s National Chairman.

Dated October 2, 2026, and signed by the group’s National Organising Secretary, Sa’idu Muhammad, the petition accused Agada of publicly supporting candidates of other political parties in areas where the APC has its own candidates.

The group specifically alleged that Agada endorsed Senator Abba Moro of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 senatorial election in Benue South, despite the APC having its own candidate for the position.

The petitioners also alleged that campaign banners bearing the images of President Bola Tinubu of the APC and Moro of the PDP were displayed during the alleged cross-party endorsement.

The APC Solidarity Group further accused Agada of publicly stating that he would not campaign for the APC governorship candidate in Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, in the 2027 election.

According to the group, Agada made the statement during an appearance on TVC’s Politics Tonight programme on September 28, 2026.

The petitioners argued that Agada’s alleged position raised questions about his loyalty to the APC and compliance with the obligations expected of senior party members.

The group also linked the former Benue chairman to the Strategic Alliance for Tinubu 2027, popularly referred to as the “Rainbow Coalition” in Benue.

The coalition is associated with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and was formed to mobilise support for President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid across party lines.

However, the APC Solidarity Group alleged that the activities of the coalition in Benue involved support for candidates from other political parties in constituencies where the APC has nominated its own candidates.

The group therefore asked the NWC to constitute an investigative committee to examine the allegations and invite Agada to appear before it.

It further requested that a disciplinary committee be constituted if the allegations are established, with appropriate sanctions imposed and publicised as a deterrent to other party members.

The petitioners cited the APC constitution and urged the national leadership to determine whether Agada’s alleged conduct amounted to anti-party activity punishable under the party’s rules.

They argued that the issue was particularly serious because Agada previously served as chairman of the APC in Benue State and was therefore expected to understand and respect the party’s structures and decisions.

The group also maintained that the APC was bigger than any individual or political interest and called for party discipline and supremacy ahead of the 2027 elections.

The petition comes amid continuing political disagreements within the Benue chapter of the APC as political parties and groups position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.

Vanguard reported that the petitioners also expressed support for Governor Hyacinth Alia and other APC candidates in the state, insisting that the party’s candidates should not be undermined by senior members.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that the APC has not announced a suspension of Agada over the allegations. Rather, the immediate demand before the party’s NWC is for an investigation and possible disciplinary action if the allegations are established.

The Punch reported that efforts to obtain Agada’s reaction to the allegations were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls seeking his position on the matter.

The development adds to the political tensions surrounding the APC’s preparations for the 2027 elections, particularly in Benue State, where competing interests within and outside the party are already shaping the political landscape.

For now, the allegations remain claims contained in the petition, and any disciplinary action against Agada would depend on the outcome of the investigation requested by the APC Solidarity Group.
