Pastor Bolaji Idowu, Lead Pastor of Harvesters International Christian Centre, has emphasised the need for wisdom in relationships while reflecting on the different challenges faced by single and married people.
Idowu, who is known for regularly addressing relationship, marriage and personal-development issues in his teachings, made the remarks while discussing intimacy and relationships.
The cleric said he had found himself repeatedly advising unmarried people to abstain from sex while encouraging married couples to maintain intimacy within marriage.
“I’m tired of telling singles to stop having sex and married couples to have sex. Relationships really need wisdom,” Idowu said.
His comments highlight the contrasting relationship challenges he says he encounters among unmarried and married people, particularly around intimacy and expectations in relationships.
Idowu has previously spoken extensively about relationship choices, warning people against entering relationships without clearly understanding their purpose or direction.
In one of his previous teachings, he advised people against dating simply because they were unemployed or financially dependent, arguing that financial circumstances could influence how people evaluate potential partners.
He has also advised people to exercise wisdom when choosing marriage partners, including warning against viewing marriage primarily as a means of gaining access to wealth.
In June 2024, Idowu criticised the idea of men marrying women primarily for financial reasons, describing such an approach as a sign of what he called a “consumer mentality.”
The pastor has similarly spoken against undefined relationships and advised people to establish clarity about where their relationships are headed rather than remaining in arrangements without clear intentions.
Idowu is the founder and Lead Pastor of Harvesters International Christian Centre, a church with campuses in Nigeria and other countries. His ministry regularly focuses on faith, personal development, relationships and family life.
His latest comments have again drawn attention to the complexities surrounding relationships, with the pastor stressing that wisdom and understanding are necessary when navigating romantic relationships and marriage.
