The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man suspected of involvement in an illegal arms-trafficking network in Ilorin.
The suspect, identified as Umaru M., was arrested during a stop-and-search operation conducted by police operatives in the state capital, according to a statement issued on Monday, October 5, 2026, by the command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi.
Police said the operation led to the recovery of firearms, magazines and live ammunition concealed in a bag found inside a commercial vehicle.
According to the command, Umaru initially denied ownership of the bag but allegedly later admitted that he was conveying the weapons during the course of the investigation.
Police said information obtained from the suspect linked him to another person identified as Dan Yarubawa, who allegedly handed over the weapons to him for delivery to a third person identified as Dahiru outside Kwara State.
The command said investigators had intensified efforts to locate the other individuals allegedly connected to the network and determine the extent of their activities.
The police described the operation as part of its ongoing intelligence-led efforts to prevent and disrupt criminal activities across Kwara State.
Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, Ojo Adekimi, assured residents that the command would continue to strengthen its security operations and take measures against threats to public safety.
He also urged residents to provide credible and timely information that could assist security agencies in preventing crime and apprehending suspects.
The investigation into the alleged illegal arms-trafficking network remains ongoing.
The police allegations against the suspect have not been tested in court, and he remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a competent court.
