A disturbing kidnapping case reported from Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State has raised fresh concerns over the involvement of local collaborators in ransom kidnappings and the risks they themselves may face within criminal networks.
According to a report attributed to Bakastine, a young boy identified as Umar Sa’ad Moba was allegedly kidnapped after three suspected accomplices from Jibia reportedly worked with bandits to abduct him and hand him over to the armed group.
The report said the victim’s family subsequently paid millions of naira as ransom for his release.
After the ransom was reportedly paid, the bandits allegedly returned Umar to the same three men who had helped facilitate his abduction, with the understanding that they would take the boy back home.
However, the three men allegedly feared that Umar knew them and could identify them to his family or security authorities.
According to the account, the suspects allegedly stopped while transporting the boy through a bush path and killed him before abandoning his remains.
When Umar failed to return home after the ransom had reportedly been paid, his family was said to have contacted the bandits to find out what had happened.
The bandits allegedly responded that the boy had already been handed over to the three men who were expected to return him home.
The report further claimed that the bandits subsequently lured the three suspected accomplices back by telling them that additional ransom money had been received.
When the men reportedly returned, they were allegedly detained and questioned by the bandits.
The account said the three men eventually confessed to killing Umar and disclosed the location where they had allegedly left his body.
It further claimed that the bandits later killed the three suspected accomplices.
The circumstances surrounding the reported deaths, including the identity of the individuals involved and the exact location where the boy’s remains were allegedly found, could not be independently established from authoritative sources at the time of publication.
The case, if confirmed, would highlight the particularly dangerous role of local collaborators in kidnapping networks, where individuals familiar with communities may allegedly assist criminal groups in identifying or abducting victims.
Jibia and other parts of Katsina have experienced repeated attacks and kidnapping incidents linked to armed bandit groups. Police have previously reported responding to kidnapping attempts in the area, including incidents along the Magama-Jibia and Katsina-Magama Jibia routes.
The reported case also underscores the broader human cost of ransom kidnappings, which can extend beyond the initial abduction and payment of ransom when criminal networks involve local collaborators.
However, the allegations concerning Umar Sa’ad Moba and the three alleged accomplices remain subject to independent confirmation. No official statement from the Katsina State Police Command or another government security agency confirming the specific account was located during the search.
