The Oyo State Police Command has arrested threesuspects in connection with the alleged murder and robbery of a family of six at Oloba Village in Lagelu Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects were identified as Hammed Akinbami, Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward, all residents of Oloba Village.
According to the police, the incident occurred at about 7pm on September 22, 2026, when the suspects allegedly invaded the residence of Ifeanyi Chukwu, his wife and their four children.
The police said the suspects were armed with locally made weapons and allegedly robbed the family of N200,000 cash, a Boxer motorcycle, a Doma machine with chainsaw and a spraying machine.
The command said the attack turned fatal during the robbery, alleging that Akinbami shot the husband, while Ojo and Edward attacked the woman.
Police further alleged that two of the children were tied up and thrown into a nearby river, while the remaining members of the family were also killed and their bodies disposed of in the river.
The arrests followed intelligence received by the command on October 2, 2026. Detectives subsequently commenced an investigation aimed at identifying those responsible for the attack.
Police said the investigation led to the arrest of the three suspects, who allegedly confessed to their involvement during interrogation.
Items reportedly recovered during the investigation include the family’s Boxer motorcycle and other exhibits connected to the alleged attack.
The command said the remains of the woman have been recovered, while efforts are continuing to recover the remains of the other four victims.
The suspects and the case file are expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, for further investigation and legal action.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has directed that the case be thoroughly investigated, with the command saying anyone found culpable will face the law.
The allegations against the suspects have not been determined by a court, and they remain presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
