Nigerian X influencer and chef Esther Meinzide, popularly known as Big Esther, has reportedly died alongside her sister in a fatal road crash in Ogun State.

Esther was among nine people who died in a collision involving a Delta Line commercial bus and a Sino truck along the Ijebu-Ode–Ore route in the Bethel area of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

The Federal Road Safety Corps said the crash occurred at about 4:55pm on Monday, October 5, 2026, while it was raining and the road pavement was wet. The nine victims comprised three males and six females. Preliminary investigation identified speed violation as the probable cause of the crash.

The FRSC said its rescue team arrived shortly after receiving the distress call. The bodies of the victims were subsequently evacuated and deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Ijebu-Ode, while the vehicles involved were towed to the Ilese Police Station.

Esther, who was known on X as @BigEsther30, was reportedly travelling towards Delta State with her sister when the accident occurred. Friends and other social media users have since shared tributes following news of her death. Reports said she had been gaining attention online for her content and passion for cooking.

Her reported death has also drawn renewed attention to posts and videos associated with her final journey. According to social media reports, Esther had shared a video from the journey shortly before the crash, while a separate earlier post concerning the kind of death she feared has also resurfaced.

However, the latter claim has not been independently verified from an authoritative source, and its timing and exact wording should therefore be treated as a social media claim rather than an established fact.

The crash has generated widespread reactions online, with friends, followers and other users mourning Esther and her sister.

The FRSC has urged motorists, particularly commercial drivers, to exercise maximum caution during rainfall, noting that wet roads can reduce tyre grip and visibility and make vehicles more difficult to control.

The agency also advised motorists to observe speed limits and maintain safe following distances to reduce the risk of crashes.
