The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has carried out an air operation targeting suspected kidnappers operating in a forested area of Ogbadigbo Local Government Area of Benue State, close to the Enugu-Benue boundary.
The operation, conducted on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, involved the provision of close air support to surface forces advancing against the suspected criminal elements.
According to the NAF, the operation disrupted the activities of the suspected kidnappers and supported the movement of ground forces in the area.
The Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF Headquarters, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday.
The operation comes amid security concerns around the Benue-Enugu boundary, where criminal groups have been accused of using forested areas as hideouts.
Ejodame also clarified reports concerning a Nigerian Air Force helicopter that landed in the area after the operation.
He said the pilot, while returning to base after completing the mission, exercised professional discretion to conduct a precautionary landing approximately 10 nautical miles from the airfield.
According to the NAF spokesman, the landing was carried out in accordance with established operational and safety procedures following combat missions.
He stressed that the helicopter subsequently returned to base, dispelling reports suggesting that the aircraft was stranded following an emergency.
The Air Force said the operation demonstrated its continued commitment to supporting ground troops through coordinated air and ground operations.
It also pledged to sustain pressure on criminal elements and continue providing air support to security forces working to protect communities and restore safety in affected areas.
The NAF did not disclose the number of suspected kidnappers affected by the operation or provide details of any arrests or casualties.
