A former councillor and district chairman of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) in Rim, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, has been killed in an attack on the community.
The victim, identified as Hon. Daniel Danjuma Chong, was reportedly killed after gunmen invaded Torok of Rim on Sunday night, August 2, 2026.
The Berom Youth Moulders Association, through its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Monday.
The association alleged that the attack was carried out by suspected armed Fulani militias alongside hired bandits.
According to the BYM, the attackers also shot and injured another resident, identified as David Dachollom Danjuma, before fleeing the area towards Bangai-Fulani.
The association described Chong’s death as another violent attack on the Berom community and condemned the incident.
The killing occurred amid continuing security concerns in parts of Riyom and other areas of Plateau State, where attacks involving armed groups and communal tensions have continued to generate concern.
In a separate statement issued in September, the BYM also condemned attacks in Rim and Wereng communities that claimed the lives of two youths, Joel Bwede and Justics Dadong. The association called for stronger security measures and the investigation and prosecution of those responsible.
However, the allegation that suspected Fulani militias were responsible for Chong’s killing has not been independently established in the reports reviewed.
Security agencies had not publicly announced arrests or provided a detailed account of the circumstances surrounding the attack at the time of reporting.
