A Magistrate Court sitting in Kabala, Kaduna State, has reportedly granted bail to 12 opposition party leaders arrested in connection with political violence in Kafanchan, Jema’a Local Government Area.

A source close to the detained politicians confirmed their release on bail on Thursday, October 8, 2026, following their earlier remand at the Kabala Police Station pending further proceedings.

The source expressed appreciation to SaharaReporters for its coverage of the incident, describing the outlet’s reporting as impartial.

However, the conditions attached to the bail had not been disclosed as of the time of filing this report. It was also unclear whether the court had fixed a date for the next hearing.

The 12 politicians comprise eight members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). They were arrested following violence that disrupted political campaign activities in Kafanchan on Monday, October 5.

The ADC members are Anas Usman Amfani, Abubakar Sadiq, Abdulmalik Muhammad, Ibrahim Tanimu Amfani, Hamza Kure, Bala Nuhu, Sauban Jibril and Ya’u Zakariya, the party’s chairman in Jema’a Local Government Area.

The four PDP members are the party’s Jema’a chairman, Hassan Yaro, alongside Babangida Talle, Aliyu Saeed and Dini Muhammad.

The arrests generated controversy after Isyaka Abdullahi Ladan, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain accused by an opposition supporter of instigating the violence, was reportedly released after his arrest.

The allegation against Ladan has not been independently established, and the police have not publicly provided a detailed account explaining the circumstances surrounding his reported release.

The Kaduna State Government previously confirmed that arrests had been made but urged the public to allow the police to complete their investigation.

The reported bail comes amid growing political tension in Kaduna as parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with opposition figures calling for security agencies to handle political disputes impartially.
