Armed men have reportedly abducted at least seven traders transporting yams along the Ogbe–Koro axis in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, with a vigilante member reportedly injured during an attempt to pursue the attackers.

According to a report by Egbe Mekun Parrot, the incident occurred on Thursday evening, October 8, 2026, when the traders were travelling from Ogbe to Egbe and were allegedly ambushed by the gunmen.

The report said local vigilantes from Ogbe were alerted shortly after the abduction and attempted to pursue the fleeing attackers.

However, the gunmen allegedly opened fire on the vigilantes during the pursuit, leaving one member with a gunshot injury.

The attackers reportedly escaped with the abducted traders, while the injured vigilante was said to have sustained a gunshot wound during the exchange.

As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of victims and their whereabouts had not been independently established. It was also unclear whether security agencies had launched a formal rescue operation or issued an official statement on the incident.

The reported attack has renewed concerns about the safety of traders and other travellers using rural routes in Yagba West, where communities have previously experienced kidnapping incidents.
