The Abia State Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers and rescued an 18-year-old woman, Ifeoma Obinna, following a reported demand for ₦5 million to secure her release.
The police said the breakthrough followed a distress call received by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit on October 4, 2026, after an unidentified caller allegedly contacted the victim’s mother, Mrs Obinna, demanding ₦5 million before she could see her missing daughter.
According to a statement issued on Thursday, October 8, by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, operatives acted on actionable intelligence and tracked the suspects to Umuimo Community in Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia State.
The suspects were identified as Chidozie Rainbow Hezekiah, 65; Brave Rainbow, 21; and Innocent Otodirichu, 21.
Police said the teenage girl was rescued during the operation. Two daggers and her mobile phone were also recovered as exhibits.
The command said investigations were ongoing, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend other individuals allegedly connected to the kidnapping syndicate.
The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and other criminal activities across the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with useful information that could help prevent crime and protect lives and property.
