Former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has filed a suit against the Sokoto State Government over its alleged refusal to release the report of the judicial commission of inquiry that investigated his administration between 2015 and 2023.

Tambuwal instituted the suit, marked SS/133/2026, before the Sokoto State High Court, seeking an order compelling the government to make the full report available to him.

The case was filed through his counsel, U.O. Sule, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, before Justice Mohammed Mohammed of Court 6. The defendants include Governor Ahmed Aliyu, the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, and the Sokoto State Commission of Inquiry.

The commission was established by the Aliyu administration to investigate the activities, financial transactions and other matters relating to Tambuwal’s eight-year tenure as governor. It was chaired by Justice Mu’azu Pindiga, a former Chief Judge of Gombe State.

The panel conducted its proceedings and subsequently submitted its report to the state government. However, Tambuwal alleged that he had not been given a copy of the document despite participating in the inquiry.

In his suit, the former governor argued that having submitted himself to the proceedings, he was entitled to know the findings and recommendations arising from the investigation.

He further maintained that access to the report was necessary to enable him to respond appropriately to any adverse findings and protect his constitutional right to fair hearing.

Tambuwal is asking the court to determine whether the defendants can lawfully withhold the report from him after the conclusion of the commission’s proceedings.

The suit brings the dispute over the handling of the inquiry report before the judiciary, although the filing of the case does not determine the merits of any findings the commission may have made against the former governor.

The court has scheduled November 9, 2026, for hearing of the suit, according to reports by Nigerian media outlets.
