Troops of Sector 2, operating under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have reportedly prevented a potential attack on commuters after discovering two explosive devices allegedly planted by suspected terrorists along the Magami–Hannutara–Dansadau road in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The operation followed intelligence reports about the suspected explosives, prompting troops to secure the affected area and search the route.

According to a report published by security-focused publication Zagazola Makama on Friday, October 9, 2026, the troops identified two locations where the devices had been planted and deployed an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team to handle the situation.

The team reportedly destroyed one device and safely recovered and neutralised the other, preventing a potential threat to motorists and other road users.

Following the operation, troops intensified patrols and surveillance along the route to protect commuters, safeguard nearby communities and prevent further threats.

The incident highlights the security risks facing travellers along parts of Zamfara State, where armed groups have previously targeted roads with attacks and explosive devices.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious objects or activities to the nearest security agency. Members of the public should avoid approaching or touching suspicious objects and leave their handling to trained security personnel.

No casualties were reported in connection with the latest discovery in the reports reviewed.
