The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kebbi Area Command, has handed over agricultural pesticides valued at more than ₦223 million to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) following their seizure in Kebbi State.

The Area Controller, Mahmoud Matawale Ibrahim, disclosed this on Thursday, October 8, 2026, during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Birnin Kebbi.

According to the controller, the seized consignment comprised 6,109 cartons of agricultural chemicals, including 500 cartons of Rezim Herbicide, 708 cartons of Gramosun, 1,291 cartons of Sun-Paraquat, 1,990 cartons of Gbeledzo and 1,620 cartons of Gramostrong.

The products were intercepted at different locations within the command’s area of responsibility, including Dandi Local Government Area, Koko and Jega.

Ibrahim said the handover followed the inspection of the consignments, which revealed that the products contained active agents capable of posing serious risks to human health and the environment.

The controller said the exercise was conducted with the approval of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, as part of efforts to prevent prohibited and potentially harmful products from entering distribution channels.

In a related development, the command handed over suspected cannabis valued at ₦2.52 million to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

It also transferred 37 rounds of live ammunition and 12 live cartridges for pump-action firearms to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW).

The Customs Service said the seizures demonstrated its commitment to combating smuggling, protecting public health and strengthening national security through cooperation with relevant regulatory and law enforcement agencies.

Ibrahim urged importers, distributors and users of agricultural chemicals to comply with applicable regulatory requirements and obtain the necessary approvals before importing, distributing or using such products.

NAFDAC is expected to take further regulatory action concerning the pesticides handed over to the agency.
