A Nigerian soldier identified as Abdurrahman has reportedly been killed by suspected Boko Haram terrorists in Yobe State while returning from an errand.
The incident was confirmed by a family member, Hydar Jao, in a social media post on Thursday, October 8, 2026. An online report mistakenly listed the year as 2027, although the report was published on October 9, 2026.
Jao said Abdurrahman was off duty and unarmed when he was attacked. He described the deceased as his younger brother and said the loss had left their family devastated.
“Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Raji’un. With a heavy heart, I announce the painful loss of my younger brother, Abdurrahman, a brave Nigerian soldier serving in Yobe State,” Jao wrote.
He said his brother had returned home on leave less than two months before the incident and was the youngest child in their family.
Jao also appealed for prayers for the deceased, asking Allah to forgive his shortcomings, grant him Jannatul Firdaus and give the family strength to endure the loss.
As of the time of reporting, details about the exact location of the attack and any official response from the Nigerian Army or security agencies had not been established by the report.
The incident comes amid continuing security challenges in Nigeria’s North-East, where Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) remain active.
