The Primate of The African Church, Nigeria and Overseas, His Eminence Julius Osayande Olayinka Abbe, has called on public office holders to intensify efforts to tackle corruption, improve the economy and ensure that Nigerians benefit from democratic governance.

Abbe made the appeal in Lagos on Saturday, October 10, 2026, during a press conference marking the 125th Founders’ Day anniversary of the church.

The cleric urged political leaders at the federal, state and local government levels to take decisive steps to address the country’s economic challenges and improve the living conditions of ordinary Nigerians.

He stressed that corruption must be tackled if citizens are to enjoy the dividends of democracy, calling for greater commitment to fairness, equity, justice and accountability in public administration.

“Our nation must take decisive and uncompromising steps to curb corruption and enthrone fairness, equity, justice, and ensure that the dividends of democracy permeate to all citizens,” Abbe said.

He also urged governments at all levels to intensify efforts towards strengthening the national economy and guaranteeing the security of lives and property.

The Primate commended the leaders and members of The African Church for their contributions to its growth and development, urging them to remain committed to the church’s mission.

The 125th Founders’ Day anniversary is scheduled to be held on Tuesday at The African Church Arch Cathedral on Broad Street, Lagos.

Abbe’s remarks add to calls by religious leaders and other stakeholders for stronger accountability, improved governance and policies that address the economic and security challenges facing Nigerians.
