The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers following a robbery incident around Sumal Junction Roundabout in Ibadan, recovering a locally fabricated pistol, a live cartridge and a motorcycle.

The arrests followed a distress call received at about 9:15 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2026, reporting that armed men were dispossessing members of the public of their belongings in the area.

According to a statement issued on Sunday, October 11, by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, officers from the Oluyole Divisional Headquarters responded to the report and deployed a patrol team to the scene.

The operation led to the arrest of three suspects identified as Sunday Obasola, 29; Kayode Bamikole, 28; and Durodoye Ayobami, 23.

Items recovered included a black TVS motorcycle with registration number AKN 808 QF, a locally fabricated pistol and a live cartridge.

The police said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects allegedly robbed a tricycle driver and two passengers and injured other people during their operations.

The recovered items have been secured as exhibits, while the suspects remain in police custody.

The case has been transferred to the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) at Eleyele, Ibadan, for further investigation.

The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to responding promptly to distress calls and using intelligence-led policing to tackle crime.

The command also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, noting that credible information from the public can assist efforts to improve security.

The allegations against the suspects remain subject to investigation and determination through the legal process.
