The Amadabo of Moko-Ama in the Akassa Kingdom of Bayelsa State, His Royal Highness Moses Theophilus Kenibara VII, has reportedly died at the age of 64, with some media reports linking his death to complications from a liposuction procedure.

The monarch’s reported death was announced in reports published around October 9 and 10, 2026, prompting tributes from members of the Ijaw community and people familiar with his traditional and community leadership roles.

Kenibara VII ruled Moko-Ama in Sangana, Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. He was crowned Amadabo in 2016 and later served as chairman of the Akassa Clan Council of Chiefs.

He also served as chairman of the Central Zone of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), where he participated in efforts to promote unity, peace and development among Ijaw communities.

In August 2026, the monarch publicly commended the Nigerian Navy for an operation that led to the arrest of suspected criminal elements in the Akassa area. He described the operation as a relief to residents affected by insecurity and called on young people to pursue lawful livelihoods.

Tributes following news of his reported death have described him as a community leader who advocated peaceful coexistence and development in the Niger Delta.

However, details surrounding the circumstances of his death remain unclear. Although several reports have linked it to complications from liposuction, Niger Delta Herald reported on October 9 that the immediate cause had not been established at the time of publication.

No official statement from the monarch’s family or relevant traditional authorities confirming the reported surgical complications was available in the sources reviewed.

The reported death represents a significant loss for Moko-Ama, the Akassa Kingdom and the wider Ijaw community, particularly given his roles in traditional leadership and regional cultural affairs.

Further details regarding the circumstances of his death and burial arrangements are awaited.
