Ogun Court Orders Former Governor Gbenga Daniel to Submit Documents in Land Dispute Case

The Ogun State High Court sitting in Sagamu has directed former Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel, now a serving Senator, to provide the documents requested by the state government in connection with a pending land and planning dispute.

At the resumed hearing of Suit No: HCS/371/2025 – Otunba Justus Gbenga Daniel & Anor vs Governor of Ogun State & Others, presided over by Justice O.S. Oloyede, the court emphasized the need for compliance with the government’s demand for proper documentation from Daniel and other affected residents.

Representing the government, O.T. Olaotan (Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice), alongside R.B. Kadiri (DCL), A.E. Odukoya, and W.A. Onawole, informed the court that an interlocutory injunction and counter-affidavits had been filed in response to Daniel’s motion. They further noted that the matter was not yet ripe for substantive hearing.

On his part, A.O. Kotoye (SAN), counsel for Daniel, alongside O.T. Are and A.O. Adeniyi, sought an extension of the interim order earlier granted by the court, which was due to lapse after seven days.

The state government, however, countered that Daniel and the other claimants should take advantage of the two-week extension already announced by the Ministry of Physical Planning to submit their documents — a directive that, according to the government, many other affected residents have been complying with.

Justice Oloyede ruled that the status quo must be maintained, urging both parties to consider settlement options in the interest of fairness. He further directed the claimants to comply with the government’s request within the stipulated extension period.

By mutual agreement of both counsels, the court adjourned the matter to October 13, 2025, for the hearing of pending applications.
