The First Lady of Taraba State, Her Excellency Mrs. Agyin Kefas, has launched the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI)/Tony Elumelu Foundation Women Economic Empowerment Programme in the state, a scheme designed to support small businesses owned by women.
Under the initiative, 500 women in each of Nigeria’s 36 states and the FCT will receive ₦50,000 grants to recapitalize their small businesses. The programme aims to strengthen women-owned enterprises, uplift families, and build more resilient communities.
A Step Toward Inclusive Growth
Flagging off the programme in Jalingo, Mrs. Kefas described the empowerment scheme as proof that compassion and collaboration can transform lives.
“This initiative is a clear demonstration of how collaboration and compassion can transform lives. I remain committed to ensuring that women in Taraba and across Nigeria are not only supported but empowered to thrive, inspire, and lead,” she said.

The Bigger Picture
The programme, spearheaded by Nigeria’s First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu in collaboration with the Tony Elumelu Foundation, is part of the Renewed Hope Initiative — a national drive to expand opportunities for women, youth, and vulnerable groups.
By providing women entrepreneurs with access to small-scale capital, the scheme seeks to stimulate economic inclusion, reduce poverty, and strengthen grassroots development.
