Thousands of public servants in Osun State took to the streets on Thursday in an appreciation and solidarity rally to express their support for Governor Ademola Adeleke, praising his consistent care for workers since assuming office in 2022.
Led by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, the workforce began assembling at the state secretariat gate as early as 8:00 a.m., singing and dancing in celebration of the governor. By 11:00 a.m., when Governor Adeleke arrived, the procession moved from the gate to the podium of the Governor’s office, with workers carrying placards bearing messages such as “Osun Workers are Solidly with You,” “Imole is 4+4,” and “We Won’t Go to Egypt Again.”
Addressing the crowd, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in Osun, reaffirmed the workers’ endorsement of Governor Adeleke for a second term, describing his administration as a government that genuinely cares for public servants. “We gather here to thank you for all you do for workers. You are one of us, a leader who cares deeply for us. Today, we reaffirm our backing for a second term. His records for public service are unprecedented,” Arapasopo said amid thunderous applause.
Comrade Bimbo Fasasi, State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), echoed the NLC’s position, noting that the Adeleke government has consistently addressed workers’ needs and aspirations. “We reject any attempt to drag Osun back to the past. Our support is unwavering, and today we show it in our thousands,” Fasasi declared.
Comrade Kehinde Ogungbangbe, Osun State Chairman of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), highlighted ongoing concerns regarding local government accounts, insisting that replacing statutory union signatories with APC members is illegal and contravenes state finance law. He praised Governor Adeleke for continuing to pay workers’ salaries despite the challenges posed by the seizure of local government allocations.
The Joint Negotiation Committee Chairman, Comrade Lekan Adediran, reinforced the positions of NLC, TUC, and NULGE, emphasizing the unity of Osun workers in endorsing Governor Adeleke for a second term. Elder Aina, who coordinated the rally, commended the governor’s commitment to workers’ welfare and democratic dividends across ministries and agencies.
In his response, Governor Adeleke described the rally as a “manifestation of true love and endorsement” by Osun workers. He reaffirmed his dedication to worker welfare, urging citizens to collect their voter cards, mobilize their communities, and support the continuity of responsive governance. “Expect more services and goodies. Let us sustain good governance now and in the future,” he told the cheering crowd.
The state workforce had earlier formally endorsed Governor Adeleke for a second term during the 2025 May Day rally, reinforcing the strong bond between the government and public servants.
