President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday hosted the Soun of Ogbomoso, His Imperial Majesty Oba Ghandi Afolabi Orumogege III, at the State House in Abuja, where the monarch commended the President’s courage in addressing Nigeria’s most pressing economic challenges.
The Soun hailed President Tinubu for taking what he described as bold and necessary steps in removing fuel subsidy and tackling foreign exchange issues. According to the monarch, leadership requires courage and the ability to make difficult choices for the greater good. “You made a bold statement with the removal of the oil subsidy. You are taking amazing strides only a bold leader can take. Difficult times will soon be over. Thank you for refusing to kick the can down the road,” Oba Orumogege III said.
In response, President Tinubu expressed appreciation for the recognition of his administration’s efforts, stressing that the hard decisions were unavoidable. He said the measures had already begun to stabilize the economy, restore confidence, and earn Nigeria renewed respect globally. “We had to take those actions. Because we did, the economy is stabilizing, bleeding has stopped, Nigeria is now more respected, and Nigeria is alive,” the President stated.
