Governor Abba K. Yusuf has received updates on the activities of the recently inaugurated Task Force on Mobilization for Voter Registration.
Expressing confidence in the task force’s progress, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed Kano State’s commitment to becoming the state with the highest number of registered voters in the country. He urged task force members to maintain their momentum and ensure that all eligible citizens register and obtain their voter cards.
Governor Yusuf highlighted that the task force was established as part of his administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen democracy through enhanced civic participation in electoral processes, assuring the committee of his full support in achieving its mandate.
Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdussalam informed the Governor that he had held discussions with the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner to assess readiness for the voter registration exercise and assured that the government would provide an enabling environment for smooth operations across the state.
Task Force Chairman and Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, briefed the Governor on activities carried out within the first two weeks of the committee’s inauguration. The task force has engaged with the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner to establish a cordial working relationship, ensuring that no eligible citizen in Kano is left out of the registration process, regardless of party affiliation or social background.
The committee has also conducted engagements with stakeholders, including Kungiyar Mawallafa and Civil Society Organizations, to sensitize them on their role in mobilizing citizens for voter registration. Local Government Chairmen and Councillors have pledged support by assisting in recruiting volunteers to facilitate online registration in all 484 wards across the state.
Comrade Waiya emphasized that the mobilization effort is driven by patriotism and commitment to the development of Kano State.
