The Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, has praised the bold reforms being implemented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, describing them as evidence of the power of political will in shaping economic policy. Speaking on Tuesday at the opening session of the 66th Annual Conference of the Nigerian Economic Society (NES) in Abuja, the Vice President emphasized that these measures are crucial for addressing Nigeria’s longstanding structural weaknesses.
Senator Shettima called on African nations to embrace the knowledge economy as a pathway to sustainable economic growth and development, stressing that productivity, rather than outdated explanations, should guide continental progress. He acknowledged that while Nigeria faces challenges similar to those experienced across Africa, the country benefits from a President who listens and is committed to meaningful reforms.
“Nigeria is, of course, not exempt from Africa’s economic tragedies. But our silver lining is the listening ear of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Under his leadership, this administration has embarked on bold and inevitable reforms to address structural weaknesses that others before us only paid lip service to,” he stated.
The Vice President further likened the reforms to a necessary surgery, acknowledging that while their immediate impact may be challenging, their long-term benefits would ensure permanent recovery and stronger economic foundations for the nation.
