Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, officially received prominent leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Isialangwa South, including Dr. Gershon Amuta and Chief Chinagorom Nwankpa, along with hundreds of their supporters and other opposition political heavyweights, into the Labour Party. The reception took place on Tuesday, September 30th, at Isieketa, Isialangwa South.
Governor Otti emphasised that the gathering was not a defection, but rather a reception of his brothers and sisters who have long supported him. He assured the new members that everyone in the Labour Party is equal, regardless of when they join, and instructed all Mayors to ensure proper integration of the entrants without any discrimination. “This is not defection; it is reception of our brothers, some of whom had been with us even before now. In the Labour Party, everyone is equal. The day you join, you assume a position of equality with everyone,” Governor Otti stated.
The Governor also announced the imminent commencement of work at the Okpualangwa General Hospital, highlighting that a world-class contractor has been mobilised and that within six to nine months, the hospital will be completed, providing state-of-the-art healthcare facilities to the community. He further assured that ongoing development projects, including roadworks, would continue until completion, demonstrating the government’s commitment to tangible progress for the people.
Speakers at the event, including Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Hon. Ginger Onwusigwe, and Hon. Dennis Chinwendu Rowland, expressed confidence that the inclusion of such high-calibre individuals would strengthen the Labour Party and ensure Governor Otti’s 2027 reelection. Other dignitaries present, including Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Uzor Nwachukwu, Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Engr. Ikechukwu Monday, former Deputy Governor Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, former SSG Dr. Emeh Okoro, and HRM Eze Nelson Nmeregwa, lauded the move as a unifying step that consolidates political strength and fosters development in the state.
New entrants, including Chief Chinagorom Nwankpa, Hon. Barr. Remijus Nji, Edwin Ihejirika, Sir Patrick Njoku, and Lady Gloria Agomuo, praised Governor Otti’s achievements and pledged their unwavering support for his administration and 2027 reelection bid. The event highlighted the Labour Party’s growing influence in Abia State and reinforced Governor Otti’s commitment to inclusive governance, development, and political unity.
