The National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, on Thursday, October 2, 2025, received the newly appointed Caretaker Committee Chairman of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Bassey Eko Ewa, at the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja. The meeting was held at the Chairman’s office and drew the participation of members of the National Working Committee (NWC), who joined in reaffirming the party’s commitment to stability and growth across the federation.
The engagement was described as a strategic one, coming at a time when the PDP is intensifying efforts to strengthen its structures in the South-South, particularly in Cross River State. With Rt. Hon. Ewa now assuming leadership of the state caretaker committee, the National Chairman emphasized the importance of teamwork, discipline, and loyalty to party ideals in order to consolidate gains and mobilize grassroots support ahead of future elections.
Members of the NWC in attendance expressed confidence in Ewa’s capacity to steer the affairs of the state chapter during this transitional period. They noted that his appointment reflected the leadership’s trust in his ability to unify party members, mediate conflicts where necessary, and align state-level activities with the broader national vision of the PDP.

According to Nuru Shehu Jos, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the PDP National Chairman, the interaction with Rt. Hon. Bassey Eko Ewa signaled the party’s readiness to maintain unity and discipline while preparing for stronger political engagements.
The PDP leadership expressed optimism that with committed leaders like Ewa at the helm in Cross River, the party is better positioned to reconnect with supporters, strengthen internal democracy, and chart a clear path towards future electoral contests.
