The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has honored 16 long-serving staff of its Department of Hospital Services (DHS), celebrating their decades of commitment and invaluable contributions to Nigeria’s healthcare sector.
The ceremony, held at Merit House, Abuja, brought together senior government officials, directors of agencies, Chief Medical Directors of tertiary hospitals, and other key stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, commended the retirees for their exemplary service and legacy of excellence. He also applauded the Permanent Secretary, Daju Kachollom (mni), and the Director of Hospital Services, Dr. Salaudeen Jimoh (mni), for spearheading the recognition of the retirees.
“It’s really a great honor to celebrate our retirees. To the honourees, you have served diligently, performed excellently, and left a legacy that will endure. We appreciate you as part of the health family, which all of us will one day join,” Prof. Pate said.
Also addressing the gathering, the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, praised the retirees for their professionalism, integrity, and dedication to strengthening the healthcare system.
“Retirement is not the end of the road, but the beginning of a well-earned journey. Your wisdom and experience remain vital to the ministry and to Nigeria. The President has emphasized that retirees must be treated with respect and care, because one day, we will all be in their shoes,” Dr. Salako added.
The Permanent Secretary, Daju Kachollom (mni), described the event as historic, noting it was the first time DHS organized a dedicated retirement ceremony. She commended Dr. Jimoh for initiating the program and praised the retirees for their sacrifice and dedication.
Dr. Salaudeen Jimoh (mni), in his remarks, highlighted the honourees’ contributions to policy reforms, hospital infrastructure development, and mentorship of younger health professionals, stressing that “true service transcends official tenure.”
As part of the appreciation, the retirees were presented with gift items including refrigerators and microwave ovens.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to advancing universal health coverage in line with the Federal Government’s agenda, assuring that the legacy of the retirees will continue to inspire current and future healthcare reforms.
