This was disclosed by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, during a courtesy visit by the Czech Republic’s Junior Deputy Minister of Defence, Radka Konderlová, and her delegation to NAF Headquarters in Abuja.

Air Marshal Abubakar described the visit as a reflection of the long-standing friendship between Nigeria and the Czech Republic, underscoring their shared commitment to peace, security, and aerospace advancement.

“The Nigerian Air Force has transformed into a resilient and agile force. Our sustained operations against terrorism and piracy continue to reinforce Nigeria’s role in safeguarding both regional and global security,” the CAS stated.

She emphasized that Nigeria is one of the Czech Republic’s most important partners in Africa, stressing the importance of technology transfer, capacity building, and local industry empowerment as vital pillars of the partnership.

“Beyond defence, this cooperation carries immense potential for human capital development, economic growth, and global peace,” she added.

Both delegations identified key areas of collaboration, including:

  • Logistics support for the NAF’s L-39ZA fleet

  • Overhaul and acquisition of Mi-series helicopters

  • Training for aircraft technicians

  • Advancements in aerospace engineering, avionics, and unmanned aerial systems

NAF also expressed strong interest in expanding cooperation with leading Czech firms in areas such as:

Notable Czech companies highlighted for potential collaboration include Aero Vodochody, Avast, RETIA, and ERA.

Air Marshal Abubakar expressed optimism that these initiatives, anchored on mutual respect and a shared vision for peace, will deliver long-term benefits for both nations while enhancing Africa’s broader security architecture.
