The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, today received the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, FNIA, FOIB, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, where discussions centered on a landmark collaboration to protect federal government assets and improve police welfare through affordable housing.

The Minister, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Shuaib M. L. Belgore, NDOM, OON, and senior officials of the ministry, proposed the establishment of a National Task Force comprising key ministries and agencies in partnership with the Police. The initiative, aligned with the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, seeks to safeguard federal lands and infrastructure from increasing cases of encroachment that have stalled vital national development projects.

Arc. Dangiwa also disclosed that President Tinubu has approved a major housing initiative designed to provide thousands of housing units for police officers nationwide. He commended the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for its professionalism, resilience, and service to the nation, stressing that improved welfare through adequate housing will further enhance its efficiency in safeguarding lives and property.

In his response, IGP Egbetokun expressed appreciation for the President’s gesture, describing affordable housing as one of the most pressing welfare needs of police personnel.

“Welfare is central to operational effectiveness, and adequate housing is a vital part of it. This initiative speaks directly to the needs of our officers and will undoubtedly boost morale and service delivery,” the IGP said.

He further pledged the NPF’s full support for the proposed National Task Force, stressing that reclaiming and protecting encroached federal government lands is a matter of urgent national interest. He assured that the Police will work closely with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and other stakeholders to ensure the success of both the task force and the housing initiative.

The Force reiterated its commitment to professionalism, excellence, and service, while prioritizing the welfare of its officers and men as a cornerstone of effective policing.
