The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has called on Nigerian youths to reject corruption and take an active stand against all forms of economic and financial crimes.
The charge was delivered on Monday, August 25, 2025, during the 13th Annual Teenagers Workshop organized by Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society at Epitome Model Islamic School in Mararaba, Nasarawa State. Speaking through Assistant Commander Aisha Mohammed, Head of the EFCC’s Enlightenment and Reorientation Unit, Olukoyede highlighted the deep-rooted impact of corruption on the nation and the critical role of youths in shaping a better future.
He stressed, “You matter most to us because you are the future of this country. Whatever you can, do it to save this nation from corruption. Change the narrative, frown at all forms of corruption. Corruption is the reason we have poor hospitals, bad roads, substandard schools, and a failing educational system. Do not wait. Fight it. Resent it wherever you see it happening, so that we can collectively save our nation from the monster of corruption.”
On the importance of integrity, Olukoyede added, “The moment you lose integrity, you lose everything. Make integrity your trademark. Be so synonymous with integrity that people can identify you with it. Your voices matter, so join hands with the EFCC to drive corruption out of Nigeria.”
During the interactive session, Assistant Superintendent Ilyasu Bala explained the complementary roles of EFCC and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). While the EFCC targets financial crimes such as money laundering, internet fraud, illegal mining, and illicit oil dealings, the ICPC focuses on corruption within the public sector, including bribery, embezzlement, and abuse of office.
The workshop, attended by teenagers from across the country, also emphasized moral education, civic responsibility, and leadership skills. Habiba Ahmed, Director of Empowerment and Endowment at Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society, commended the EFCC for engaging youths as partners in the anti-corruption crusade and encouraged participants to carry the lessons home to their families and communities.
The event reinforced the critical message that youth leadership, integrity, and civic responsibility are essential tools in Nigeria’s ongoing fight against corruption, positioning the nation’s next generation as active agents of change.
