The Zonal Director of the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) North East Zone, Major General Abubakar Adamu (rtd), has called for enhanced collaboration with the 7 Division Nigerian Army to strengthen efforts against the proliferation of small arms and light weapons in the North East region.

Major General Adamu made the remarks during a courtesy visit to the Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division NA and Commander Sector 1 Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN-KAI, Brigadier General Ugochukwu Unachukwu, at the Division Headquarters, Maimalari, Maiduguri, Borno State, on 26 August 2025.

Highlighting the mandate of the zonal office, Adamu emphasized its role in destroying illicit arms, prosecuting gun runners, and raising awareness on the dangers of small arms proliferation. “Effective collaboration and synergy will go a long way to tame the security dynamics of ongoing counter-insurgency efforts in the NE region,” he stated.

Brigadier General Unachukwu welcomed the Zonal Director and praised the NCCSALW’s initiatives, affirming the 7 Division’s readiness to support the agency’s mandate. He noted the unique security challenges in the North East, including insurgency, terrorism, and armed violence, stressing that inter-agency cooperation is vital to addressing these threats.

The visit included strategic discussions, signing of the Wolf Visitors’ Book, presentation of souvenirs, and a group photograph, marking a renewed commitment to a collaborative approach for regional security.
