In a decisive move to tackle security challenges, particularly banditry, the Kebbi State Government, in collaboration with the Kebbi Elders Consultative Forum, convened a high-level Security Summit on Wednesday, 27th August 2025, at the Presidential Banquet Hall, Birnin Kebbi.

In his keynote address, Governor Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu) commended the Elders Forum for their foresight in organizing the summit, describing it as an important platform for enhancing peace and stability across the state. He stressed that security is a collective responsibility, urging traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, women organizations, and other stakeholders to partner with the government and security agencies in promoting unity and peace.

Governor Idris highlighted the government’s strategic investments in security, including the establishment of a functional State Security Committee chaired by the Governor, deployment of additional Forward Operational Bases (FOBs) in vulnerable areas, enhanced intelligence gathering, and investment in modern technology and training for security personnel. He noted that these measures have already produced positive results, including reductions in kidnapping for ransom and other criminal activities in Kebbi South, as well as limiting infiltration in Kebbi North.

Earlier in the event, the Chairman of the Kebbi Elders Consultative Forum, Maj. Gen. Mohammed Magoro (OFR), Galadiman Zuru, represented by Justice Suleiman Muhammad Ambursa, Vice Chairman of the forum, praised Governor Idris for his visionary leadership and inclusive governance. Magoro stressed that security is not the sole responsibility of government but a shared duty of all citizens, calling on residents to reject banditry, political thuggery, and misuse of social media.

The summit featured presentations from security chiefs and stakeholders, who shared insights on intelligence sharing, community engagement, and strategies for improving overall security in the state. The event drew participation from government officials, traditional and religious leaders, elders, youth and women organizations, politicians, NGOs, and other stakeholders, all reaffirming their commitment to restoring lasting peace in Kebbi State.

In his closing remarks, Governor Idris declared zero tolerance for insecurity, warning perpetrators to desist or face the full weight of the law. He further announced that recommendations from the summit will be integrated into a comprehensive security action plan, with clear timelines and responsibilities for implementation, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to ensuring every community in Kebbi State is safe.
