
In a moving address marking the 34th anniversary of Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke cautioned political actors against playing politics with citizens’ welfare, urging all stakeholders to respect the rights and interests of the people. Speaking at Adolak Hotel, Osogbo, following an early morning state broadcast, the Governor emphasized that governance must prioritize public welfare and serve as a moral responsibility.
Governor Adeleke reaffirmed his commitment to the well-being of Osun residents, promising never to compromise the public’s interest. “As we have the people and God with us, our administration remains unshaken and undisturbed,” he stated. He also commended his predecessors for their contributions to the state, highlighting the continuity of development efforts.
The Governor detailed his administration’s achievements since taking office in 2022, noting that civil servants and pensioners have received their due entitlements, stabilizing the public service. He emphasized the critical role of infrastructure in economic growth, announcing ongoing projects to transform major cities and towns into economic and social hubs through sustainable roads, bridges, and improved urban planning.
Efforts to boost the business environment include harmonized tax systems, streamlined land acquisition processes, a digitized investment portal, and policies to promote the digital economy. Adeleke disclosed plans for a Digital Economy Advisory Board, aiming to position Osun as a South West digital hub.
The Governor also highlighted reforms in the energy, mining, sports, and tourism sectors. Osun State now holds shares in the Segilola Gold Project and has upgraded its mining licenses, ensuring environmental preservation while boosting the state treasury. Climate action and renewable energy initiatives have won national recognition. In sports, a five-star stadium is under construction, alongside plans for the Osun Sport Development Commission and Fund. Tourism development includes a decentralized strategy and the upcoming Adire festival in November to reclaim Osun’s cultural heritage.
In education and health, the government strengthened state universities, rehabilitated schools, expanded teacher recruitment, and upgraded health centers, earning Osun the distinction of best state in primary healthcare access in the South West. Plans are ongoing to enhance general hospitals and broaden health insurance coverage.
The anniversary event was graced by the First Lady, Chief (Mrs) Titilayo Adeleke, Secretary to the State Government Hon. Teslim Igbalaye, traditional rulers including Olojudo of Ido Osun, Oba Jokotola Olayinka Tunde, commissioners, special advisers, top civil servants, and invited guests from across the state.
Governor Adeleke concluded by reiterating that Osun State values good governance, promising continued delivery of democratic dividends and holistic development for all citizens.
