The Advisory Committee on Local Government Autonomy has officially submitted its findings to the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, in a move set to reshape grassroots governance across the state.
The presentation, held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at the Government House Exco Chamber in Jalingo, was led by the Committee Chairman, Rt. Hon. (DCN) Peter Abel Diah. The committee, inaugurated in July 2024, was tasked with repositioning local government councils in line with the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling granting full autonomy to Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.
During the submission, Rt. Hon. Diah highlighted strategic recommendations focused on enhancing financial independence, administrative efficiency, governance oversight, and sustainable service delivery at the local level.
Governor Kefas praised the committee’s efforts, describing the report as a critical framework for strengthening local governance and ensuring that the benefits of democracy are deeply felt at the grassroots.
