The Bayelsa State Government has taken a significant step toward becoming a hub for renewable energy with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with JAMPUR Group for the establishment of solar panel and smart electric meter manufacturing plants in the state.
The agreement was signed by Bayelsa State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Biriyai Dambo, SAN, on behalf of the state government, while Bello Abdulahi represented JAMPUR Group. The initiative is expected to not only boost electricity infrastructure but also create employment opportunities for residents, according to state officials.
Governor Douye Diri expressed delight at securing a reputable investor for the state’s renewable energy sector. He highlighted that JAMPUR Group, known for supplying power systems to major facilities including Abuja and Lagos international airports, will collaborate with Bayelsa authorities to install gas turbines and other energy infrastructure. The governor assured the company of government support and emphasized the importance of training local citizens in technical skills to ensure self-reliance and sustainable employment.
“First, it is a delight that what we have been dreaming and pursuing—investors from outside the shores of this country—are now here with us. This reputable company will help Bayelsa become an Energy Hub, particularly in renewable energy,” Governor Diri stated.
Officials from the state Ministry of Power and the Managing Director of the Bayelsa State Electricity Distribution Company were also tasked with coordinating technical training for local communities, ensuring that residents acquire skills to participate actively in the energy sector.
The partnership reflects Bayelsa’s broader strategy to attract investment in critical infrastructure, promote sustainable energy, and strengthen local capacity for technological and industrial development.
