The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has issued an urgent advisory following the outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), warning Nigerians to remain vigilant. Although no cases have yet been reported in the country, the NCDC is actively monitoring the situation to prevent any potential spread. Citizens are urged to practice strict personal hygiene by washing hands frequently with soap and running water, avoid close contact with anyone displaying symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or unexplained bleeding, and refrain from consuming bushmeat while ensuring that all animal products are thoroughly cooked. Healthcare workers are reminded to maintain the highest standards of infection prevention and control and to use personal protective equipment (PPE) consistently. The NCDC further advises that anyone who has recently traveled to affected areas and develops symptoms should immediately contact 6232 or their State Ministry of Health hotline. The agency stresses that collective vigilance and adherence to these precautions are vital to protecting Nigeria from the threat of Ebola.
