The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has expressed its appreciation to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its role in helping the Service meet the federal government’s 2025 revenue target.

The commendation came during a courtesy visit by FIRS Executive Chairman, Mr. Zach Adedeji, and his management team to EFCC Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, at the Commission’s corporate headquarters in Abuja. Adedeji noted that while FIRS had received praise from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for meeting the revenue target, it was important to recognize the contribution of partners like EFCC in achieving the milestone.

Speaking during the visit, Adedeji said, “We came to commend the kind of relationship we have and how you helped us in achieving our goal, which contributes to sustaining the financial stability of Nigeria. We are also seeking your cooperation as we enter another budget cycle to reform our expenditure framework and drive voluntary compliance among taxpayers.”

He added that the collaboration between the agencies had been critical in demonstrating transparency and accountability, ensuring that citizens could see how collected revenues are utilized.

In his response, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede congratulated FIRS on reaching its revenue target and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to supporting the Service. “I want to thank you for your commitment. Collaboration is key. When the public sees EFCC working alongside FIRS, it sends a strong signal that financial and economic crimes, including tax fraud, will not be tolerated,” he said.

Olukoyede also highlighted a recent Court of Appeal judgment affirming EFCC’s authority to investigate tax-related fraud, describing it as a validation of the Commission’s mandate to combat financial and economic crimes. He stressed that the joint efforts of EFCC and FIRS, including ongoing task forces, would continue to strengthen revenue collection and compliance across the country.
