The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has commended the Defense and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) for introducing a pioneering initiative to provide full scholarships to children of fallen heroes. The commendation came during a courtesy visit by DEPOWA members to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Leading the delegation, DEPOWA President Mrs. Oghogho Musa explained that the scholarship programme would officially begin with the commissioning of the DEPOWA Future Leaders Academy in September 2026. She highlighted that the initiative would benefit children of police officers who have sacrificed their lives in service, while also promoting national cohesion by including children from surrounding communities. Mrs. Musa further acknowledged the dedication of police officers in combating crime and contributing to international peacekeeping missions.
In his response, IGP Egbetokun reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to protecting life and property, maintaining public order, and upholding democracy. He emphasized that the Force draws strength from the support of partners such as DEPOWA and other affiliated associations, reinforcing its resolve to fulfill its constitutional mandate.
The meeting marked a significant milestone in the collaboration between the police and stakeholder organizations to support the welfare and education of officers’ families.
